Several Artistamp editions by Jas are included in the
exhibition THE WORLD WITH PERFORATIONS at the Watchung Arts Center. This unique exhibition, curated by
American artist
Thom Lynch, focuses on international artists using postal items and themes in
their work. Other Artistamp makers included in the exhibition
are Anna Banana, Ed Varney, Picasso (Bill) Gaglione, Dogfish, E.F. Higgins III,
Patricia Tavanner, Elliot Cantsin, Pere Sousa, Harley, Greg Byrd,
and and Piermario Ciani.
A reception was held on Sunday, December 7th, from 1 to 4pm at the Gallery.
November 7 - 28th, Bellingham, Washington
IMPRESSIONS DE BARCELONA opens November 7th at the Viking Union Gallery at Western Washington University
in Bellingham, Washington.
The presentation includes collages and frottages (rubbings) created by Jas during the nine months of two extended sojourns to Barcelona in 1995 and 1997 where he discovered the contemporary "post-Christian, neo-pagan" culture of Spain. Most of the material for the collages was collected from Barcelona's daily newspapers. Other material includes 'found' objects such as metallic cigarette papers found on the city's streets. The frottages are rubbings of Barcelona's sidewalks.
A reception for the artist was held on Wednesday, November 12, from 6:30 to 8pm at the Gallery. The exhibition continued thrugh November 28th.
October 25 - November 23 - Vancouver
Jas' exhibition 8X10 is available for viewing as part of the BROWSER Artropolis 97 art exhibition held at the Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews in
Vancouver. Regular exhibition hours are Tuesdays to Fridays, 10am -9pm;
Saturdays and Sundays 10am - 5pm. The 8X10 exhibition includes twenty-eight small works in 8 x 10" mats. The period
covered by this selection of Jas' art works is 1967 to 1994.

Seven digital art works by Jas from the Jas Cyberspace Museum are used to
enhance the publication DIZIONARIO ANTOLOGICO e CRITICO, di poeti, scrittori e artisti italiani
Contemporanei, edited by Marco Delpino e Paolo Riceputi and published by Edizioni Tigullio -
Bacherontius.
October 4th - Bellevue, Washington
Jas presents his recent Artistamp limited edition prints, introduces the Postes Mraur Artistamp Dispensor, and his Bottled Ray Johnson Commemoratives at Alternative Artfest 97. This event, attended by thousands, is held at the Meydenbauer Center.

Vittore Baroni's long awaited book entitled Arte Postale is published and includes a reproduction of one of Jas' artistamps. (on file).

20 - 21 junio - Barcelona
Jas participates in the two day conference Jornades de arte postal.
On Friday, June 20th Jas gives a 15 minute presentation on Artistamps and
participates in the Round Table Discussion: Què és l'art postal? On Saturday Jas is in the Espai Internet to introduce conference participants to the Jas Cyberspace Museum. Jas also contributes via the internet to the Art Mailing exhibit and his essay, Artisellos: Jas.W.Felter, is printed in Spanish in the conference proceedings.

Postes Mraur and Merz Mail present an international exhibition of Artistamps at the XVI Marató de l'Espectacle 1997. Jas' recent Marcos Artistamp is featured on page 214 of the Cultural Marathon's catalogue of

April 13th - Vancouver
Jas leaves for Barcelona for a three-month stay. While there he plans to
collaborate with Pere Sousa on several Mailart projects and present an
exhibition of a new series of collages. The Barcelona City Council has once
again refused permission to hold an Artistamp exhibition at the Philiatelic
Market in the Royal Plaza.
March 7th through May 9th - Chicago, USA
Important Artistamp and Mailart works from the FIVE/CINQ Archives, as well as
early Artistamp works by Jas, form part of the exhibition Past, Present, Post: The Mail Art Show at The Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper Arts. This exhibit
is described as an idiosyncratic freefall through the lavish, democratic and
obscure world of Correspondance Art. If you get a chanch, do see it and send
us your impressions.
February 22nd & 23rd - San Mateo, California
Jas participates in the Pacific Rim Artistamp Congress, along with many other
Artistamp creators. For more information on the Congress read

Jas presents a lecture and demonstration entitled Creating for the 'Net in conjunction with the exhibition Why Can't Things Stay
the Same? Transitions and Transformations in Art Making at the Surrey Art Gallery from 1 to 2pm. He shares his secrets and techniques
of making art in cyberspace.

Jas is one of six artists featured in the exhibition Why Can't Things Stay the Same? Transitions and Transformations in Art Making at the Surrey Art Gallery. Jas will be represented by 10 works. The earliest,
the 1972 serigraph entitled Ch'ien, the first work acquired by the Surrey Art Gallery for its Municipal
Collection. It is a mandala with the I Ching trigram (representing the Creative) at its centre. Other works included in the exhibition were selected to
represent Jas' rubberstamp art, artistamps, artist's books, computer art,
computer prints and modular works created between 1972 and 1996.
