December 4th through December 10th - Moscow
The First Moscow Artistamp Exhibition opens at ART-MANEGE '98 on December 4th. This International Art Fair aims at promoting the
expansion of the art market in Russia and the former Soviet republics. Art-Manege also lends its support to co-operative between Russian artists and foreign
institutions as well as to new trends in contemporary art. Calling the
Canadian virtual museum (JCM - Jas Cyberspace Museum) and its Artistamp Gallery
- "one of the most well-known conceptual NEW MEDIA ART projects in the world.",
the organizing committee for Art-Manege'98 invited Canadian artist Jas W Felter and Russian artists Lamana Wooman and
Kholopov Trouser to organize The First Moscow Artistamp Exhibition from the collection of works available to JCM.
December 1st through 12th - Barcelona
Jas contributes to the project Pròpia Còpia, a project of the Côclea Association in collaboration with Merz Mail, the
Orchestra of Chaos and the Association of Electroacústica Music of
Spain. It is designed to review the concept of author in various artistic
scopes: visual, literature, and sonorous art. Documentation on file.
November 20th - Spain
The IM 98 JAS/CÉSAR (Incongruous Meetings 98) is the subject of a full page comic strip in the
national newspaper El PAÍS. It is found on page 47 in the section Las Tentaciones. Document on file.
November 14 through December 15 - Buenos Aires
One of Jas' artistamp works is included in the exhibition ARTISTAMPS - Muestra colectiva internacional de sellos de artista in the bar Barbara Ann, Taquíigrofo Garriga 163. Documentation on file.
November 5th - Tarragona, Spain
Traveling south by train, Jas arrives in Tarragona to collect cigarette packs
and visit to El Taller del Sol's Archivo museo de "mail-art" (AMMA). The world's only mail art museum open to the
public. Outside AMMA Jas meets the Museum's coordinator, César Reglero. After an
extensive tour of the Museum and its collection, César takes Jas on a
tour of Tarragona - the city that supplied the stone to build Rome. At
the train station César collects empty cigarette packs from the trash
bins and presents them to Jas for his Millennium Project. The meeting is registered as one the IM 98 JAS/CÉSAR (Incongruous Meetings 98) with the Ethereal Open Network in Italy.
October 20th through November 7th - Spain
Jas is in Barcelona continuing his expedition to collect empty cigarette packs
and continue his research of tiles and their use in decorating buildings,
rooms, and hallways. He receives large donations of cigarette packs from
Charlie & Doli Williams, Pere Souso, and Jose Carlos Soto.
October 8th through 20th - Portugal
Jas is in Portugal on an expedition to collect discarded, empty cigarette
packs. He explores and collects in Belé Sintra, Carcavelos,
Oeiras and Estoril, as well as Lisboa, where he makes a special visit to the Museu Nacional do Azulejo (National Tile Museum) as part of his research for the Jas Millennium Project.
October 6th through 10th - Manizales, Columbia
Jas Cyberspace Museum is presented at the Segundo Festival Internacional de la imagen at the Universidad de Caldas.
June 20th, 1998 through January 3, 1999 - Vancouver
The Non Smoking Table by Jas is presented in the HELLO AGAIN! A new wave in recycled art and design exhibit curated by Susan Subtle at the Vancouver Museum. The table is covered with gold and silver foil from used cigarette
packages. Its top is a mosaic pattern made from 192 different cigarette
packs from 23 countries, the EU and the EEC surrounding a central mandala made
from 88 health warnings taken from Canadian cigarette packs. More information

June 14th - Vancouver
A donated painting by Jas is sold at the Art Auction at the Westin Bayshore to Support Prevention Services for Women. The
event is sponsored by the Canadian PID Society with proceeds to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Society. Documentation on

May 23rd through September 27 - Luxembourg
The Codex Almada, a miniature artist's book by Jas is exhibited and sold at Minimal Art Discount Exposition at Du Vague à l'Art-collectif S.à r.l., 19, rue St. Ulrich

May 3rd through June 10th - Spain
Jas travel to Spain to begin an extensive expedition to collect empty used cigarette packs for his Jas Millennium Project - The Non Smoking Room, a Memorial to the 20th Century. He lands in Madrid and takes the train to Huelva. After collecting many cigarette packs he
travels by bus to Sevilla on May 8th. On May 11th he rents a car and drives to Cadiz, stopping in Los Arcos de La Fronteria for lunch. On May 13th he returns to Sevilla and takes the train to Cordoba. By the 15th of May he has collected 54 empty cigarette packs. He travels by
train to Barcelona on the 16th. By the end of the expedition he has a suitcase full of close to
1,300 cigarette packs.
May 1st through 31st - Vancouver
Many Hands - Collaborative Collage Works Central Visual Artists Association (CVAA), including Jas, Anna Banana, Jeannie Kamins, Shirley Lum, Khadejha McCall,
Henri Robideau, Barbara Seamon, Peter Small, Bill Thompson Ed Varney and Jane
Wolsak is presented at A WALK IS ... Gallery, 976 Denman Street. The Opening takes place on Friday, May 1st at 8pm.
The Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 noon to 8pm and Sunday

April 26th through May 21st - Vancouver
A little new ink-on-paper work by Jas entitled Manuscript Leaf #57 from the Codex Derval is included in the exhibit small: the art of the miniature, an exhibition of miniature works of art by 79 contemporary British Columbian
artists at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre Gallery. A friend and
fellow member of the CVAA, Barbara Seamon, walked away with a first prize. The exhibit is produced and curated by Avenue for/des Arts, the resident visual arts group at the VECC. An opening reception took place on Sunday, April 26th from 3 to 6pm. Catalogue and invitation

April 20th - USA
Six of Jas' Cyberstamps are featured in the April 20th issue of the US
publication STAMP COLLECTOR. The article, Cyberstamps are cinderellas of the internet by Roger and Bonnie Riga, introduces and discusses cyberstamps as collectable cinderellas in the age of
computers and e-mail. Original copy on file.
April 4th - 19th - Vercelli, Italy
Jas' art work is exhibited in the Electric Mind Project: Works and themes of digital art curated by Gian Piero Prassi. The exhibition is held at Studio 10 and examines the ../../photos of the 'linguaggio globale'. The catalogue,
reproducing three of Jas digital art works is on file.
March 4th through 20th - Sechelt, British Columbia
Five Artistamp editions and the Mraurovian Artistamp Dispensor by Jas are included in the
exhibition ARTISTAMPS OF THE INTERNATIONAL MAIL-ART NETWORK at the Sunshine Coast Art Centre. This unique exhibition, curated
by Canadian artist Anna Banana, includes the work of more than 40 artists from around the world. The
majority of the works exhibited are from the collection of Anna Banana.
Special guests at a reception held on Saturday evening, March 7th, were Sandy Jackson of Seattle & San Diego, Carl Chew of Seattle, Ed Varney of Vancouver and Jas. Catalogue on file.
